Derrick Carlson (he/him) is currently a second grade monolingual teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. He is in his ninth year of teaching. Derrick's a successful culturally responsive educator who has developed his skillset through Zaretta Hammond’s year long professional learning community. He has undergraduate degrees in English Literary and Cultural Studies, and French from the University of Oklahoma. Derrick earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University. He is currently in a graduate literacy education program.
